On Wednesday, February 8, Ralph Lewis, UConn Professor of Geology will be present a seminar,”The Geological Landscape of Connecticut,” as part of the Spring 2017 Environmental Issues Seminars. It runs from 6-8:30 p.m. in room C101 and includes a Q&A. It is free and open to the public.
Lewis is currently presently a professor in residence at UConn in the Marine Sciences department at Avery Point and has spent 15 years as a marine geologist for the Long Island Sound Resource Center. A certified Professional Geologist with 39 years of professional experience, he served as State Geologist of Connecticut between 1997 and 2003. He is a member of the Connecticut Academy of Science and Engineering, and a former member of the Ocean Studies Board of the National Academies. He received the Dr. Sigmund Abeles Award for “Outstanding Service to Science Education in Connecticut.” In 2014, Ralph authored a chapter on the geology of Long Island Sound in the Springer Book Series entitled “Long Island Sound Prospects for the Urban Sea.” He is presently the president of Geological Society of CT and serves as the Vice President of the Lyme Land Trust. He also takes the public on field walks and is frequently called upon to be a guest speaker.
The Spring 2017 Environmental Issues Seminars features prominent scientists on multiple topics on the environment. They are held weekly on Wednesdays through May 17 in room C111, starting at 6:00 p.m. They are free and open to the public.
