Three Rivers will be hosting In The Thick LIVE on October 16! Award-winning journalists and In The Thick co-hosts Maria Hinojosa and Julio Ricardo Varela travel to Eastern Connecticut for a live show to discuss addiction in POC communities in CT and nationally, as well as the mental health impact with guests.
Drug addiction continues to plague the United States. And though it’s often treated as an issue within white communities – who do make up a majority of opioid overdose victims – a CDC report released earlier this year found that black and Latinos are overdosing and dying increasingly faster than whites are. Connecticut has been seen as ground zero for the epidemic where the Oxycontin-maker Purdue Pharma was based and 93 percent of overdoses in the state, are caused by opioids. But the local community has been organizing to save lives around the state.
